Based on our experience last night with this boss, I did some research. And I found something reeeeeally interesting. And a little confusing:
There's lots of conflicting information, but I found at least 2 sources (icy-veins and tankspot) which lists the healing mushroom as affecting ALL targets (wowhead lists it as all players). World of Logs also captures the Living Spores tooltip as 'ALL units', but does only captures the boss being healed by the creep, not the mushrooms.
If healing mushrooms DO heal the boss, then that would explain why we were having such a pain getting him down. A simple test would be to try and tank him 20 yards+ from the mushrooms. This would mean tanks and melee wouldn't get healing benefits... But healing spores = 20k+ HPS, which would take 2 xtra DPS players to burn through.

Further digging on World of Logs kills:
Longest fights that still managed to get a kill ~ 10 mins. How they managed to keep creep at bay that long, i have no idea. For reference, our fights were all in the 7 mins range. And we started getting swamped in creep around 6 mins.
Successful kills in the 7 min range average DPS around in the 17k+ dps per DPS player. Our raid fluctuates from attempt to attempt, but we seem to average 12k per DPS player.
So yeah... gear up and more pew pew?

Re: Brackenspore research
Being as I won't be able to raid tonight, I thought I would share some of my adventures in PUG land.
I feel that Brackenspore, Twin Ogrons, and Heroic Kargath are actually easier than normal Tectus. I recommend you try H.Kargath > Brackenspore > Twin Ogrons.
I'll make separate threads for the other two bosses, and keep this one focused on Brackenspore.
Brackenspore is a simple DPS check. The key to the fight is maximizing the WHITE mushroom uptime. The green mushroom is only needed to get through infesting spores, and does not really need to be kept up otherwise. Being as the raid's DPS is now higher than in opening week, you should have no problem downing him this time.

Re: Brackenspore research
I am with you on Twin Ogron. I think we showed promise, and that it's a mechanics fight NOT a dps check.
That said, Brackenspore is, and I don't think we have doubled our dps. Plus most of the groups I have talked to (okay, right now, all of the groups I have talked to) got Twins first THEN went back for Brackenspore.
Heroic Kargath is whatever to me - but I really want people to have time to prepare for heroic, not just SPRING it on the raid right as we are going to zone in (a la Tuesday).
Another thing is - if I am going to spend all night wiping, I want it to be on a boss I KNOW we have a chance of doing. Our Tectus attempts and issues don't inspire confidence in me that we can do Brackenspore or Heroic Kargath. If we DO choose to attempt these guys, we need to limit the number of wipes. (So unlike before where we wiped on Brackenspore for an hour with no real progress being shown, we instead call it at 4 attempts.)

Re: Brackenspore research
For the players on Flamethrower -
I figured out what they mean by "turning it off." The first time you hit the button, it turns the flamethrower on, which will then burn for a set amount of time. If you hit it a SECOND time before the burn is done, it will turn it back off. When I tested it on LFR, this did a great job of keeping the heat at practically nothing.
So it's more like short pops of flamethrower, not long burns.

Re: Brackenspore research
My suggestion is:
2 attempts at Heroic Kargath
4 attempts at Brackenspore (regardless of how much better we get each time)
Rest of the night on Twin Ogrons.
Thoughts?
