So I did a (half) pug last night, and although we didn't down madness, we did do pretty well on it... at least as well as our previous attempts. There were a few things they did differently which seemed to help:
1) They did Green, Red, Yellow, Blue. There's one extra phase where you have to kill blistering tentacles, but because of #2, it didn't seem to be much of an issue.
2) They stopped dps on the wing/arm tentacle when it was about to drop below a health threshold (which would make the aoe damage go up) in order to wait for the adds/big tentacle to spawn. Then once the add was down, dps would continue. This made healing much easier.
3) They didn't have a random person disconnect every attempt...
... yeah.
