10 man progression

Post by hung »

We had a very successful night in Ulduar this tuesday. Great job to all who participated. Special mention goes to Hatta and Were for keeping my sorry butt alive, and to Nyrrin and Bosar for dancing with melting golems.

Looking forwards to thursday, I'm confident we can down the Council of Iron with time to spare. And with Auriaya down, we will have access to the third quarter bosses. The next 4 bosses are arranged in a circle and can be fought in any order. They are:

Mimiron: complex 4 phase fight
Freya: lots of adds, randomized waves
Thorin: group split in 2 forces (like live/dead side from Gothik)
Hodir: lots of frost dmg

I'm bringing this up in case people (like myself) have been putting off getting the crafted frost resist gear. If we want to attempt Hodir, 1 or 2 pieces of frost resist will go a long way (probably need all 3 for tanks).

If you are so inclined, go ahead and read up on the fights, at least enough to see which you'd prefer.

I think most of the frost damage in hodir is avoidable, not sure though

There's 2 dangerous effects:
Flash freeze: avoidable by positioning
Frozen Blow: changes his melee dmg to frost and adds a frost aoe effect

The second effect is the reason i mentioned frost resist gear.

Here's a list of the bosses in Ulduar in order of difficult. Look at Aurielya - we one-shotted her and she has one of the worst wipe/kill ratios. Good job team. This list is for 25-mans. I'll see if I can find updated information for 10-mans, post nerf.

Flame Leviathan - Seriously easy. The wipes are from people who jump into random vehicles the first try and just have fun, without reading the *huge* tactics posted everywhere - we did it the "safe" way, but wiping once to try out was probably faster. 50.8% of all attempts are kills.

Assembly of the Iron - Surprise! This fight is actually very easy on 25. The long enrage timer allows many mistakes, tanks are easy to heal, DPS just need to run from the Death Runes. 21.9% kill chance.

Hodir - He's a one trick boss - the only thing to watch for is his Frozen Blows, just rotate tanks to Shield Wall / Last Stand / Icebound Fortitude; 3 Paladins with Aura mastery = 260 FrR on every blow. People seem to have no trouble there, 20.9% kill.

Razorscale - Fireballs and RNG are evil in this fight, but otherwise it's just a test of how much damage you can do in limited time; get her down to 50% in two ground phases and you're good. 16.3%

Freya - The only thing we had trouble with is the 3 elementals that needs to die at the same time. Survive all 6 add phases and you'll enter free loot phase. 15.8%

Ignis the Furnace Master - Used to be hard, is nerfed badly. Just control the adds and heal - at 22k hp/sec healed on the average, it's at least 50% more than most fights. 12.2%

Kologarn - Balancing dps and healers is tricky here; if you keep all 3 gripped alive long enough but didn't damage the arm enough to release them, you get 3 deads. Otherwise a pretty easy fight. 11.8%

XT-002 Deconstructor - His enrage timer wiped us many times on the first day, but since you have +1 minute to 7 total nowadays, it should be easier. On the wipe duration histogram, you can see a huge spike of wipes on the 6th minute or 360s. 10.3%.

Auriaya - Crazy cat lady is a touch girl to pull, many many wipes (over 2k of them) before the first minute passed. 8.7%

General Vezax - Never done him before, but 230 kills on 2618 wipes is a nice 8.1% ratio.

Thorim - Sigh. We're on our 30th try or something, but we get into P3 reliably now, just need more pewpew. Arena part is pretty hard if you have too many casters and healers tends to rip once in a while and get oneshotted by Champions. 6.8%

Mimiron - Not looking forward to this one, the 10 man version was hell already. 5.2%

Yogg-Saron - Can't comment on tactics, but 142 kills vs 5990 wipes is bad Sad, 2.3%

EDIT:

Notable changes from 25 to 10:

Mimiron needs to be nerfed. At 4.3% kill chance, he is the hardest boss in Ulduar 10.
Thorim is free loot instead of a challenge.
Assembly of Iron is pretty tough to heal with 2-3 healers; tanks still need to spread all over the place, no margin for errors.

SECOND EDIT:
Stats can be found here http://www.worldoflogs.com/stats/ulduar/ for 10-man. Looks like Auriaya is a lot easier on 10-man - she has a 39% kill rate. Interesting stuff though. It could help us figure out which one to go for next.

According to that site, the order we should take is:

Thorim
Freya
Hodir
Iron Council

But that's just the stats...I'm up for whatever.
