Heroic Slag Mines is one of the first 3 heroics you'll need to complete to upgrade your legendary ring (along with Grimrail Depot and Everbloom).
It is also the location for the 'Come with me if you want to live' achievement, which gives you Croman, an epic lvl 100 follower. Unlike Leroy, Croman is fairly straightforward. He just follows the players through the dungeon and does not make things harder. You get the achievement as long as you keep him alive, do the bosses in the correct order (free him first), and of course, no wipe. According to the internets, it is recommended that a ranged player be the one to trigger him, since he'll follow them. A ranged player will have an easier time keeping him out of harms way than say... the tank.
As for the Dungeon itself, it is the heroic upgrade to the lvl 90 normal dungeon. As such, I consider it the introductory dungeon. The layout and mechanics are all fairly simple, but the gearchecks abound (as we found out last night). All fights seem to have escalating mechanics, rather than hard engages. This means that high dps will clear the fights before they cascade out of control. Medium to low dps will prolong the fight, which will eventually end in a wipe.
The heroic specific mechanics are as follows:
Crusto: No new mechanics! But core mechanics now kick your butt. Don't get hit by pillars, and interrupt his yell.
Magmolatus: There is a new fire debuff that gets spread through the group. It's laid on 2 players at a time, so simple cleansing won't be able to keep up.
Roltall: Now has a proximity aura that means casters and healers can't stand in melee. And the boulders now roll back! This fight is all about dodging boulders (while not falling off the bridge).
Gug'rokk: Final boss, now has a debuff that increases fire dmg. This debuff is supposedly cleanseable, but will still stack out of control.
