Ghostcrawler went into a lot of stuff in that Dev Watercooler. Mostly about the new LFR looting system.
So the change basically goes like this:
* Boss Dies
* Game decides who gets loot - Every player gets a chance and no one person getting loot affects anyone else.
* Game gives out spec dependent loot
Hopefully there will be no drama... and if there is any, it won't be at each other.
I think it's a vast improvement over the needing on crap someone already has in hopes they can trade it.
Two things that kinda concern me:
1) Spec dependent loot - how do hybrids get offspec loot. We can come in as our OS role, but it's a chicken and egg problem: gearing up.
- Of course today it's extremely difficult to get OS gear in LFR, so not a big deal
2) If every player gets a chance, does that mean there's a minute possibility that no player could win loot? I hope there's a minimum amount of loot distributed (like at least 1piece).
Other changes:
* Two types of daily questing(factions): one for more RP/social items and the other is more like the current factions today: gear and power gain items.
* Daily quest grinding can lead to a thing that gives extra chances at loot
* AoE looting - TOR has this and it's awesome. Now if WoW would change sparkles to the color-coded loot beams, that would even more awesome.
Valor Changes:
* VP will no longer purchase items
* Valor points will upgrade items
- You can upgrade an item by around 8 ilevels
* exact system hasn't been worked out yet.
The devil is in the details. On the surface it sounds awesome. I can see it making VP more useful.
Hybrids and their offspec are disadvantaged in this system. One definite way to gear up your offspec was through valor/justice points... and you'd get a serious ilevel jump. Maybe you have some crap blue that dropped from a heroic dungeon and you jump 20+ ilevels to a epic with just JP. Now you will upgrade it 8ilevel with VP. Once again... the devil is in the details. I've always seen the devs want what is best for the game.
Oh, and GC's best quote of the post:
"We think killing dragons and ransacking their hoard is more epic than shopping at the magic armor store, so we want to shift back toward boss kills being the primary source of epic PvE gear."
