I don't see myself playing sith for a main either.

My main will be a smuggler, so it's Republic side for me.

Oh, right, Smuggler is... hm, I'm still not entirely decided on what to be. I'll have to wait till my beta invite to see.

But, as far as mains/alts go, we might still want to coalesce into one side at least for the group activities. Or at least keep the alts from being wholly unloved.

Republic Jedi can lean into the Dark Side all they want, remember...

But light side/dark side of the Force-users doesn't affect the separation of factions, does it? You still have to pick one, to get to what class(es) you want.
