So Blizzcon was a wealth of new information. Out of everything I learned, only one thing really truly surprised me.

Not only is Blizzard taking note of SWTOR, it's making them worry a bit.

New MMOs come and new MMOs go. Blizzard usually doesn't bat an eye. People say, "oh, this is the new WOW killer". The MMO comes. Some people flock to it for a few weeks or months... but they come back to WOW. WOWs numbers fluctuate a little bit, but Blizzard doesn't seem to care.

I saw this with Aeon. I saw this with DDO. I saw this with RIFT... and countless others. I had friends leave and swear they weren't coming back... and weeks or months later... back they came.

If you looked on the forums, you might see a blue post saying pretty much the same thing to people saying WOW's numbers dipped. The numbers fluctuate but they'll come back.... and they do.

At Blizzcon, they announced a 1yr subscription model. Lock yourself in for a year and you get some free stuff (including diablo 3). This is a pretty serious money incentive on Blizzards part. Diablo 3 will cost ~$60.

Mike Morhiem says this is so that Diablo 3 doesn't bite the hand that feeds it. They don't want the release of D3 to lower their WoW subscription numbers. This is a decent explanation, but I'm not sure I buy it enough to give out free copies of Diablo 3. It cost a lot of money to make Diablo 3.

I see this as a way to combat SWTOR's December release. Blizzard's in a relatively poor place in their release cycle for it. Diablo 3 is coming out next year. The next xpac is some time late next year. The only thing will be patch 4.3 which should hit some time around it.

Of course it could be both reasons.

Ok, we need to finalize the name of our guild pretty soon. Some of my old SWG buddies are gathering a group of their own and I need to let them know our guild name so we can form an alliance with them and get on the same server for launch.

I am taking suggestions and we'll put up a poll.

Schadenfreude (I kinda don't want to use this guild name again, but I'll go along with it if that's what people want)

The only way I'm weighing into this question is to say "I want something that abbreviates well." Schadenfreude turned into "Schad" pretty well. Hyper Girls Dance Party, or HGDP, doesn't. FX does!

Actually I do like Fatal Exceptions. But so long as it's nothing just awful I'm fine with it. Awful meaning any pun so bad even I wouldn't make it. So almost anything is safe. Oh and I won't be in a guild with a name that in any way makes Gungans sound acceptable or canon or references JarJar in a non-murderous way. I know the way you people think so I'm going to be very very specific on those two points.
