Cho'gall 25

Post by Texaporte »

Quick version for 10-man raiders: Blood adds have 300k health instead of 75k, Corrupting Adherents have 5 mil health instead of 2 mil, there are 5 worshippers instead of 2, and there are 10(!!!!) tentacles in phase 2.

Phase 1 for people new to the fight:

1) Stay close! Cho'gall casts an MC that lasts up to 12 seconds and can be interrupted/CCed. The easiest way to interrupt it is to hit Avenger's Shield or Psychic Scream, though that won't always be possible due to RNG often hitting priests, and Avenger's Shield only hitting 3 targets. If you're far away, you won't get hit by these abilities and interrupted, and Twisted Devotion will do tons of damage to the tank and raid.
2) Stay out of the purple circle on the ground! It's a shadow crash and will give you the big bad Corruption debuff.
3) Switch DPS to the adds! They need to die in a reasonable amount of time, or Cho'gall's Fester Blood will turn them into mega-death-killyou adds.
4) Don't stand in fire! This is self-explanatory.

Phase 2 for people new to the fight:

1) KILL TENTACLES OH MY GOD. This is the ability they cast:
Debilitating Beam
Reduces healing and damage done by 75%.
Inflicts 7800 to 8200 Shadow damage every 1 sec.
10 seconds remaining

As you can see, this is Bad. The tentacles can (and should!) be interrupted, stunned, and silenced as best you can. Moonkin would be ideal for this, but we have what we have. Kick the crap out of 'em, fellas! Try to share targets as well (unless you're kicking), more dps on a single target = faster kill = more dps on the next single target
2) DPS like you have never DPSed before! You will have to move less than Captain Planet, since Cho'gall will mostly be stationary.
3) Heal like you have never healed bef... wait, phase 3 Captain Planet.

Let's git 'er dun, guildies!

Observations:
1) Stampeding Roar is on a 2m cooldown. I was able to pop it on every other big add. I think it helped.
2) I think the big add is fully immune to Maim. I tried to kick the first Depravity, Maim the second, kick the third. I believe I saw a maimed depravity go through.
3) Conversion is difficult for single target kickers. Every time I try and tab over to a raid member to kick, a multi-target interrupt has gone off. It usually throws a wrench into my rotation somewhere.... or worse if I somehow lose my combo points on the boss. After doing everything from trying help kick and uselessly being frustrated to just ignoring the whole thing and helping us wipe, I came to a happy medium. I'd stop and build up energy (skull bash costs 1/3rd my bar) and wait for the multi-target interrupt to go off. If I saw many targets go from red to blue and some red left, I'd tab and bash. If all targets went from red to blue, I'd return to dpsing. After I started doing this, I was successful in catching someone being out of range of a scream.

Questions:
4) Puking: The few times I had enough corruption to puke, dbm would warn me. My question is when to turn and puke in the corner. Do I turn when DBM alerts me? Is there something to look for other than DBM's alert? It's usually very busy with us all packed together, plus cat puking animations are iffy.
5) When one grows a shadow-bolting limb, is it best to go die in the corner or keep fighting? Dom said that it's really bad when one of these grows. Which is worse: The loss of dps from the death, or extra damage source? I guess this question is there ever a point in this fight that being alive is more of a burden than being dead
6) At times I saw purple crap on the ground. I attempted to keep out of it. What is this? Is this a incoming shadow crash? Is this just a pool of corruption?
7) Since this fight is all about interrupting, should we have more of a kick/scream schedule?
8) Tentacles in p2: Where do these spawn? At one point I THINK I saw some behind the boss, but I couldn't really tell. It was very hectic.

You turn when the debuff fades. There's a timer on a debuff that, when it runs out, causes you to puke.
5) When one grows a shadow-bolting limb, is it best to go die in the corner or keep fighting? Dom said that it's really bad when one of these grows. Just keep going until you die.

Swirly purple thing is the incoming shadow crash.
7) Since this fight is all about interrupting, should we have more of a kick/scream schedule?
Mostly impossible, because if we have any less than 6 on each schedule there's a chance (miniscule as it is) that they all get MCed at the same time.
8) Tentacles in p2: Where do these spawn? At one point I THINK I saw some behind the boss, but I couldn't really tell. It was very hectic.
Ten random locations around cho'gall, thus why we pull him into a cubbyhole so that more of those locations are right next to each other and AoEable.

And I was doing it when you weren't. It definitely helped.

3) Conversion is difficult for single target kickers.
It kinda is. To be honest, I hold my interrupt because odds are, a scream or flying shield will hit things and take care of it.
BUT, after 2 seconds (which during a fight is actually a long time), if there's 1 or 2 left worshipping, those are the ones that single-target kicking becomes important on. By that time, I've also turned away from the boss in preparation for kicking someone in the throat. DPS loss, barely perceptible if I don't have to do anything. But very reassuring for everyone's stress when leftover worshipers are taken care of.

Yeah, I've been saving my CC for times when someone may be a bit too far from the group (specifically when the add is out) since the AE interrupts are so effective when we're all together. It is important that we stay together enough that the screams can get everyone though, we had way too many stacks of that buff go up from people being too far out when there wasn't any reason to be away from the main group.
