I had a lot of fun in the Naxx-10 run last night with my new 80 alt hunter, and it got me to thinking about specs. Given that he's undergeared and his highest level pet is level 77 (don't ask), I'm thinking about a fairly non-standard spec at least until 3.1 comes out:

Basically, I'm staying mostly in beastmaster because I'm familiar with it, but concentrating mostly on my own damage rather than the pet's (since the pet misses a large amount of the time). Yes, I know this wont be as much of a problem once the pet is 80 and I have more hit gear, but since I don't play the hunter that much, I can't expect either to happen too quickly.
Thoughts?

On the subject of leveling hunter pets... do the 10% exp bonus shoulders affect pet experience?
Re: Alt hunter spec?
If you don't want to worry about your pet's damage, the best thing would be to go Survival. It maximises your personal dps. But if you don't want to learn a new spec, I would change a couple things about your current BM spec:
1> Take one point out of Frenzy (will you crit more than once in 8 seconds? most likely) and immediately put it in Go For The Throat. GffT is mandatory for BM builds (and for that matter, just about any build). A single point will increase your dps by a couple 100.
2> Take 3 points out of Imp. Hunter's Mark and put them in Cobra strikes. I know you don't want to emphasize the pet's damage too much, but there really isn't a comparison between these. 30% increase to HM AP is like 90AP. Whereas having your pet crit all the time is priceless.
Watch your pet's focus on long fights or go to a dummy and watch it going through your normal rotation. If it is focus-starved after putting 1 point in Gfft, then put a second point in.
