ICC10 pushing suggestion

Post by hung »

Here's a thought i threw out in last night's raid.

We typically call our 25 man's around 11PM pacific, and our 10's at midnight. How would people feel about forming up the 10's on Tuesday (post 25), and pre-clearing the first 4 bosses for thursday? It took us exactly 1 hour to down saurfang last night (including a wipe on the frost giant weekly).

Benefits to pre-clearing:
Leaves more time on thursday to work on the later bosses.
Means we have a chance of getting to the real challenges before 11pm (when people are falling asleep), possibly increasing raid performance.

Downsides to pre-clearing:
Some raiders can only make one raid night, and so miss out on some bosses.
Tons more organization overhead.
People would have to commit to their raids 2 days in advance.
Missing people (if no replacement) could stop an entire group.

Tuesdays I can never even make it to the end of the 25 man, so i'll not ever be able to make the first part.

I'm actually fine with this in theory. But then I have to rely on a healer not logging back in, in order to enter a progression 10 man, which is currently my only interest in playing at the moment.

That said, i'm fine with whatever unlocks heroic modes for us quicker.

I said it last night, and I'll say it again. More pulling, and less talking in between pulls. We're all familiar with the first 4 bosses and more and more people are familiar with the plague wing and crimson hall in ICC10. Even though we all like to chat, there is no real reason to do it in the middle of a progression 10, especially if there's a deadline of 12am before people turn into pumpkins. If we are expected to do a progression run, we need to act like it. Last night, it was too slow. I felt that even with the few wipes we had, we should have easily reached Sindragosa by 11pm. Instead, we only had 1.5 attempts in and we called it a night at 11:50pm. It was disappointing, and I felt like I wanted my 4 hours back. On the other hand, had it not been expected to be a progression run and we could actually get to Sindragosa, I would call it fruitful.

The current challenge here for the progression team is Sindragosa. All we need is really to do Dreamwalker/Sindragosa first, so we have as much time as we need to perfect the Sindragosa fight. We need more practice for that fight when people are fresh. There is really no point of redoing the same bosses every week, and then have little time for the real challenge.

I know this isn't something that could be controlled because groups are made up of whomever happens to be on at the time. But, I think balancing the two groups would help both get further. I may be a bit biased, but I did not enjoy nor felt I was easily able to "juggle the kinetic bombs". While I was able to do it for a bit, after a while, it was very difficult for me to do solo, Chayin had to help me keep one up if I couldn't get to it on time via dash or just plain trying to get to it by running. ^^;;

The other group had both Ustinov AND Hildur. I think having at least ONE hunter in the 10s would greatly help progression for both. I felt my DPS would have been better used on the boss instead of on the balls. If they gave moonkins permanent pets this would be less of an issue. Plus, my instance cast spells did not keep the balls up high enough for me to be able to juggle both effectively without one of them falling dangerously low. While I know I could possibly handle it, I think it is better handled by classes with a permanent pet. I can juggle one no problem + innervate healers AS needed.....I cannot juggle both, move out of stuff, dps the boss AND possibly innervate a healer that needs it that could possibly be on the other side of the room. ^^;

It was just too much for me to process and do. :P There were times innervate was called out and there was a kinetic bomb about to drop, it's like hmm, innervate OR kill the raid......yeah, I picked, save the raid and went for the ball then when I thought I had time to go innervate...another ball comes out. ^^;;

Suffice to say, I have a new hate for that fight. :P I do not think balls and I get along very well. :(

I agree with Wynne that Team Progression should be starting with Dreamwalker/Sindragosa as soon as they're past Junior. We need to learn the Sindragosa fight, and so far we haven't really put in anywhere near enough time on her. So if we can't do that, the other option is we start extending raid locks. It seems like we're getting to Sindragosa and it's 11:30 p.m. and we get maybe 2-4 attempts in, tops, and that's just not enough for a rather complex fight. I'm more than willing to take an entire week and just spend it on Sindragosa and (hopefully) Lich King. Or even just doing Dreamwalker/Sindragosa first, and then go and obliterate the other wings on a victory high. I want to see the end of the dungeon and if that means I have to skip a week of loot, so be it. I'm not gonna stop coming after we've finished it, but I don't want us to get into the habit where Sindragosa becomes our Great White Whale, or we're waiting until 10%-20% buffs before we're even working on Arthas. We've got the people capable of doing it - we just need to put our foot down and get'er done, as one of my old guild's tanks would always say.

Yeah we've about reached the point where extending the raid locks on 25 will do us good, just for the practice alone. Gear/badges can still be had from 10's. I think it was suggested that we start extending when we have the 10% buff, which is this week I think?

What is the discussed time frame on extending lock outs on 25man. I saw a lot of people getting their 4pcT10 last night...so supposedly, badges are becoming less useful (I don't have much more to get with badges for main spec) so the first 4 bosses are becoming less valuable (outside of the saurf token) and are taking a significant majority of our raid time. Starting with putricide instead of having him the last 30m of the raid night would be valuable in terms of learning the encounter...we are just not getting enough attempts on these later bosses to make much headway.

Just throwing it out there and see what people thought...

I'm definitely in favor of starting to extend the 25m raid lock, if not this week then in the next week or two. We aren't on 10% yet, but I think that's next week, so maybe we start extending next week.

Also, I'm still advocating we consider doing one 10 man that has an extended raid lock for attempts at Sindragosa, etc.
