Alternate rotface strategy

Post by Nyrrin »

Picked this up from the SA forums.
On 10 man, we just zerg the fuck out of it, 1 tank, 2 healers, 7 DPS, and everyone clumps on the boss at the start. If you get infection, you move out and spread out someplace and tank your little ooze until you get infection or the boss dies. Once 3 melee get infection, or someone gets a double, someone starts kiting, but that's a good 2 minutes + into the fight usually, and he's almost dead by then.
Personally, I think this is an amazing idea. I find that the biggest problems are 1)the debuff not getting cleansed immediately and 2) too much time spent getting your oozes into a big ooze, thus not spending that time on DPS

This handily clears up 2, and greatly improves 1, since in my raids at least, the offtank is the one doing the cleansing. If he has less to worry about in terms of kiting, it makes cleansing way easier.

Thoughts?

I saw that too and didn't really understand it.

So the people that get the infection just tank their slime outside and not DPS the boss? What if I healer gets it? then it has to be offtank right?

No, they still DPS, they just move out of the group. So DPS from the side, or heal from the side. If the third melee gets it, there's no more places to go to, so they let it merge.

I guess it is a little more dependent on people being able to move out of slime spray on their own than the way we currently do things.

If you get infection, you move out and spread out someplace and tank your little ooze until you get infection or the boss dies.
So presumably one stays wherever and the second would move to the opposite side of the rest of melee.

Right, they move out of the group. If most of the DPS is hitting him from behind, then the first melee with the infection can move to the side, just as if rotface was a dragon. The second can move to the other side, and when a third gets it, it's time to merge.

We tried this strategy last night- I think we went twice with the old strat, twice with the new, and then we went back to looking at what the real problems were and may have hit upon our winning strategy. With this new strat, the impression from the healers was that it was harder to heal at first, until we were off and merging slimes again. Doable, but hard. However, it wasn't getting us any closer to victory than the original strat, so we started looking at the true causes of death, and pinned the blame on big slimes. That is, usually, it was because we'd be able to mate some small slimes separately from the big slime, and then have two big slimes and only one in a good place. Or because that usually happened out of the reach of the slime-tank, that big slime heads into melee, or sandwiches someone to the other big slime, and chaos ensues. This would also happen if that next slime appeared in melee and thus immediately merged with another, putting big slime in bad places.

So, we put a new rule into play, that being to only merge with the big slime one at a time- get in line, tank your slime, wait to merge till the last person is clear. After we got control of just having one big slime at a time, though it made things harder on the healers for more little-slime tanking, things went a lot better. I think we got Rotface on the first time with that new rule, maybe the 2nd.
