primordial saronite

Post by hung »

So... i'm going to pre-emptively open this can of worms.
How are we going to handle the primordial saronite in ICC? For those who don't know, primordial saronite is the tier 10 equivalent to crusader orbs, to be used in the new craftable gear -and- start the Shadowmourn chain.

Should we continue to bundle them and count them as a single loot roll at the end of the night? If so, how many orbs per bundle? keep in mind, the recipes seem to need 5 or 8 per (no more 4).

Do we want to sponsor a guild legendary? or do we let everyone who can wield a 2-H axe stock up individually?

Final question: do we make the orb roll an open roll? or only available for folks that haven't gotten anything? (i vote for the latter)
Thing is: if we do the latter, then we are equating orbs to gear (i think we can all agree that's fair). But then we need to be careful about the ratio of orbs/roll: are 4 orbs fair for 1 roll? Should it be 8?

Discuss.

I vote for 4 instead of 8. That way, more people can get them faster, and if people want to buy them from AH to complete their gear, it's also an option for them. Where do they drop from?

As for the legendary, how is it obtained?

I think like how we handled orbs at the start of ToC: we horde them for the guild first, and wait till we have some actual use for them to decide how to spend them. The first things that were useful for progression were tank gear and healer gear, which became less an issue once we had ToC on farm, and then they went as bundled rolls.

Now, as for Shadowmourne, I think we need to agree that it's not as necessary as initial tank/healer upgrades, and even beyond 'nice to have', this is a luxury item. Heck, this isn't even an option for us until we have much of ICC on farm (in order to have such excess of P.Saronite).

Of course, if we want to make the effort to collect and create a legendary, really we should start farming Ulduar25 for Valanyr fragments.

From what I remember, step 1: collect 25 primordial saronite. It all starts from there, and steps two through lots are killing bosses in ICC with certain requirements. This one will definitely take a few months to do, between the saronite drops/buys from frost emblems and the boss requirements.

The top two candidates for Shadowmourne if we try and make it as a guild are Sphied and Devinoch, who've put in the most raid time and use two-handers. I refuse to choose between them, however; in fact, I'd rather spend my own emblems of frost on primordial saronite and hand it to them both than have to make that decision myself.

Anyone read how much faction you can expect to make just off the first four bosses + trash? I'm suspecting that the 1 P. Saronite needed for the bullet (thanks GC, really, I love what you did to engineering..d!@#) schematic would be faster to get via emblems if the rep gain is slow. But I haven't managed to read anything about how fast the rep gain is.

i don't have the quote, but i read somewhere it's:
1 rep per regular trash
10 rep per elite
50 rep per boss
100 rep per hard mode boss

As for the Shadowmourn P.Saronite req. here's a suggestion. We wait until we down Arthas (since we'll need to farm him as a later part of the quest anyway), then we ALL donate 1 bar to them. badges for that 1 bar is just 1 run. The quest requires 25 bars, so if all raiders chip in, its not so bad, right? Plus by waiting till we down arthas, that leaves people time to buy some stuff for themselves first.

If only fragments of Val'anyr worked like that...

Also, isn't there a rare drop to start the quest? The broken hilt or something? Or am I thinking of the Quel'sarar quest in the 5mans...

Yes that's the Quel'delar quest started from the hilt drop (random rare drop from trash) in the heroic 5 man dungeons. And that requires 5 Infused Saronite Bars, found in the pit of saron.

You know, if PS drops like crusader orbs (purchaseable with badges?), 25 is a LOT. And again, I feel this is a luxury item- if someone wants to save up 25 PS to start it, power to them. But it's not going to be necessary for ICC, and in fact it probably will only appear after we have beaten the thing, so I don't see asking the guild to chip in for it. On the positive side though, for as long as they have the gates up on the content (the blue post mentions weekS between opening sets of bosses), gathering 25 might not be so hard to do by the time we can get to the frozen throne.

The quest chain is stupidly long regardless. Only *AFTER* you get the primordial saronite do you start on the shards grind. It requires 60 fragments of the frozen throne, and THEN requires you to devour 1000 souls, whatever that is supposed to mean (1000 KBs on ICC mobs?). If we're gonna pool saronite to people we should make that decision now as opposed to when Arthas becomes available.
