Raid scheduling

Post by Akala »

After last night's surprising lack of raiders (compared to last week) I was wondering if we set up raids on the in game calendar so the RL will have an idea what to expect for numbers? Or are we using an out of game calendar? Being new to the guild I'm not sure of the process that is used to track who is going to what raid. The only thing I know for sure is to show up on Tues/Thurs. :D

My schedule has been a little erratic lately, missing 2 weeks in a row now (although I generally only play on Tuesday night anyways) since we've been busy working on a house Kim and I will hopefully be moving to around Thanksgiving.

If all goes well I'll be able to get in some raid time before 3.3 and not be too far behind on the DPS curve for Icecrown.

We used to use the in-game calendar. Not really sure why we stopped using it. And became just "show up on Tue & Thu", except that we always have more attendance on Tuesdays than Thursdays. I think last week was actually abnormal.

Don't Panic

Thus/Thurs are our normal raid days. 8pm is when we usually have our attendance peak, so that's when big things happen. We used to use the calendar more when we only had 1 run that night to do- like some Ulduar Hard Modes or we'd see if we even had enough for ToC25, or only for ToC10. Then along comes Ony and a half-dozen server xfers and suddenly we have 2 ToC25 clears a week and 3-4 10-man runs.

The calendar becomes confusing with lots of events. And then, if we don't post the event far enough in advance, there are people who only log in right before raid, so their signatures don't appear. So other people think, "not enough signups, I guess I won't show even though I signed up." Yeah, look: show up Tues/Thurs, odds are we're raiding. Some people who want to do other things will post for special events.

Because we're a casual guild, attendance varies with RL-ness. Past activity is no indicator of future attendance. Things fluctuate with holidays, mid-terms and finals, work crunches, wedding parties, various emergencies, local weather, internet maintenance, planetary alignment and interdimensional invasions. YMMV. Don't Panic.

When these fluxes in activity happen, see first line. It is not, in fact, the end of the world, or the collapse of the guild, or an endemic shortage of tanks/healers/dps. It's just another week.

No plans on panicking here, just wasn't sure how raiding was organized.

I actually like the idea of no calendar listing of the standard raid events. Makes people more inclined to show up and see whats happening that night. At worst if we do nothing in a week I can always pug the raids I want to go on. Its very easy to get in as a geared healer or tank. :D

Not quite related, but I have to ask - did you actually tank Patch without a Hateful Strike tank? O.o

Not for an entire fight. I've gone about 90 seconds without any melee in range. We didnt have the dps to down him at that point though. =(

Still, that's pretty impressive. @.o

I wonder what he'd be like with our current gear.

I believe he is one of the targets for the weekly raid quest that will be added in 3.3, the one where you get 10 emblems of frost. So, I'm sure you'll get your chance. I wouldn't mind going back for a rematch in 25 man, compared to the gear I had back then I don't have a ton more health but I've got a lot more dodge.
