Tank feedback: threat

Post by hung »

To the DPS from 9/29 ToC25 run: how was Calycemett's threat during Jaraxxus/Val'kyr?

I'm asking because I was testing a new spec which trades threat (deep wounds) for more block (critical block).

If there wasn't much difference, I'll stick with it. If a lot of people had to hold back, I'll switch back.

I always go all out, but SP 'dps' is not typically the sort that can manage to get aggro.

I remember me spiking early on each fight and getting threat warnings, but a single Feign and I was fine. Especially on those two fights, where dps switches off to other targets pretty regularly, the only real problem is in the beginning. Once you had established aggro after the first 20 seconds, I personally didn't get anymore threat warnings.

My initial threat is always pretty slow (even with my old spec). Bursty dps have seen this often... Ask Sphied or Gwadalys.

Pocky, have you experienced this too? I typically pull with heroic throw and get a shield slam in before positioning. by the time i stack up the sunders, i'm usually fine.

Actually Hung, as I found out, that was my fault -_- I left frost presence on and got aggro :p So that was 100% my fault!

Generally speaking, I pull with Heroic Throw, with a Shield Slam/Heroic Strike as a follow up. Assuming no one has gone completely insane (*stares at Cenon, Wynne, Dom, and Kevin1*) with the damage, I'm fine. But even with some spikes, generally my threat is all right.

I have Critical Block and Deep Wounds (2/3) in my current spec. That, along with Glyph of Blocking, means I have a constant 10% increase to my Block Value on top of the doubled Block Value from Critical Block. I don't know if that makes any difference or not, though.

In case anyone ever thinks about pulling threat ever again, Tex gets her Darkmoon Card: Greatness on Sunday.

I'm going to make it a contest on tauntable bosses. If you pull aggro honestly - as in, you wait until after the pull to start dps - on Tex while I'm going all-out on threat in my threat set, I owe you a drink. I don't think anyone's done it yet, without some mitigating circumstances like Tex forgetting to turn on RF or Wynne being the beneficiary of 5 DPS cooldowns (Hero, Hysteria, Trix, Killing Spree, and I think one more) and getting a luckier-than-usual string of crits.

No distracting shots or mocking blows!

Well, that wouldn't be fair, because we should be trying not to pull aggro, as in, when I saw that I pulled aggro, I should have hit Feint, or hit Vanish, but because I couldn't drop my threat, I pulled aggro and we wiped. That's not a good contest :3

Well, that's it's why only on "tauntable" bosses; Dom (and I'd hope all of the tanks) keeps an eye on the threat meter, so we can be ready to taunt/tell the DPS to slow down a bit. ^^

Still, it could be a little dangerous. ^_^;
