parallel raid/raid times

Post by hung »

this is hardly a new thought, but i think its worth bringing back up.
We can try and organize a second raid for people who can't make it in the first one. They don't have to happen on the same night, which would allow for alts, but the primary purpose should be to get everyone raiding experience (on the new content or otherwise).
We've had sufficient tanks for a while, and i believe we have a couple of new ones gearing up.
With Hatta back and Chayin having proved his mettle, we're doing better in terms of heals.

I'm approaching this from the view that being on standby is kind of lame. If people are fine with running heroics/dailies, its probably not worth attempting (goodness knows, this may fail horribly). Its just that I know resentment can build up for people who don't make it in raid, and percieving favoritism is natural when stuck on standby week after week.

On a related note: is there a reason why we are still starting raids at 8pm? I know we had some east coasters for a while, but i believe they are not running with us any longer. Would people be open to running 9pm-midnight like we used to? With raid extensions we don't have to worry about 'running out of time,' and i know a number of folks have a hard time making it by 8.

There are other issues though; usually it's 15 people trying to fit into a 10-man raid, so there's not a second raid group to be had. Also, we rarely have the extra tanks/healers for a full complement on another raid.

We've heard the complaints and resentment for being benched before; this is why people should speak up if they were benched the previous week, so that we can rotate them in. We did this last night, and 3 people who were in play the previous week willingly gave up their spots to get new people into the fights. And when volunteers are short, then the dice should decide which ones should swap out. Given these efforts we put into making runs inclusive, people really shouldn't get left out unless they exclude themselves.

But yes, between raid extensions and the number of instances available to us, there's almost no reason not to run more events to places, especially considering the number of alts we have. So though we may still be limited to 10 slots for 15 people on a Tuesday night, we might still manage a second run on Weds, some continuation on a weekend, and just extend locks into the next week. This way those who are benched on Tuesday can get into something on Weds, though it's worth noting that getting saved to a second run might work against people if slots open up on Thursday again because the first group is short...

Regarding the time, I certainly prefer to start as early as possible, since I tend to start passing out by 11 to midnight.

I'm indifferent to raid times either way....

If it's at 9 then I have a little more time to do whatever before the raid starts since I generally only play 1 night a week (becoming Thursday nights instead of Tuesday nights because Tue is dollar movie night at the local theater). If it's at 8, then I have a little more raid time if there's a space since I generally only play 1 night a week.

I agree that trying to run 2 raids at once won't work. We don't have the numbers. I was thinking something along the lines of what Tony said: a wednesday/weekend run.
However, i had not thought about people getting locked out and not being able to replace on Thursday...

To just pipe in as one of the "benched" people, although it is natural to feel resentment, I understand that if you are doing hard modes or something requiring more steady and higher DPS than my lacking haste moonkin butt can output. Then, I'm fine with that.

All I ask is I try to make it into at least one of the raids, I know I am not a healer/tank, and DPS is overflowing with most guilds. I know you guys have made me feel welcomed and help me and Chayin out a lot...and I appreciate it. :) I'm mostly waiting for that "proving of mettle" that will at least have me picked one day for a hard mode or whatever. :) I suspect until I prove to you guys I can sustain over 3k or 4k dps in all the raids I do happen to be in...I'll probably be sitting warming the bench in heroics until I do.

Hi-ho hi-ho..it's off to get more haste gear I go! :) *whistle*

Absolutely, speak up sometime about it, and I'm sure we can get you in someplace. Like, maybe there are a few fights (non-hardmode ulduar, OS, naxx?) that you can easily come in place of someone who wants to help, but doesn't necessarily need anything from the place. Mostly, remind us. Or if heroics to badges to gear is your main upgrade path currently, let us know some times that are good for you so that we don't all lock ourselves earlier in the day, and save some time to run you someplace.

Granted, it can be difficult to accommodate everybody, but it serves us as a whole to make sure everyone's mains at least can be suitable for any raid.

P.S. get a feral set kthx. ^_^

With mages' continued poor dps, I'm seriously considering gearing up an alt to replace Cazi as my main. That'll mean a lot of heroics, Naxx, etc. I tend to like range dps, so a hunter would be natural, but it can be somewhat hard to get pugs as pure dps. Any thoughts on other classes that might be good? Boomkin? Elemental shaman?

Regardless, I just like playing, so if anybody wants company for 5 mans or Naxx runs, I'm in.

What is feral? I do not know this feral you speak of....^_-

Seriously, I do not know how to play feral whatsoever. I haven't touched that tree since like Classic WoW. I do not like melee very much to begin with which is why I was feral a whole 2 weeks before I decided I did not like it. Just look at it this way...if I don't collect a feral set, you can get all the feral/rogue leather. ^_- I only turn into bear or cat to like dance or dash away. If I tank, it's pretty much in my moonkin form. Not exactly a TANK, but I can survive a little bit before getting whacked dead. :) I've actually tanked regular instances as a moonkin, no joke! :)

But, seriously....if I were to do dual spec...I'd be going Resto. HEALING is my least favorite thing to do, BUT I feel more comfortable AND did raid heal pre-BC as my horde druid. So, the druid healing is not foreign to me. So, pewpew laser chicken DPS, yes......go tree OP healing, yes.....feral dps/feral tank....NO. I mean that's the whole point of the Druid class, to be versatile, but I've only really gained the caster side...melee/tank side is pretty much dead to me.

And no, I won't roll a mage. :) THOUGH, I do have a mage, but horde side! :) My 2nd favorite role in a group/raid is tanking....especially paladin tanking. :)
