Organizing Challenge mode runs

Kicked this around a little last night while trying to get something together since raid was a bust. Ultimately didn't do anything because we couldn't get 5 interested people.

So far the folks that shown interest include:
Calycemett (tank)
Werehamster (heal)
Chayin (heal/DPS)
Shadowturkey (heal)

Anybody interested, please respond, and we can try to schedule it (probably Thursday night).

Please keep in mind that challenge modes are tightly tuned and reward NO gear. Ideally, your character should be in all 463+ gear, in the spec you will be performing.
I know there are a number of folks who's mains are already past gearing in heroics that this applies for. Let us know if you're interested :D

can go on druid (balance/resto) or priest (shadow/holy), i think priest's ilvl is like 471 and druid's is like 466 or something like that.

I wouldn't be opposed to going tank/dps.

I can't play tonight, but I'm up for DPSing some Challenge mode runs. My iLvl is 464, IIRC.

Gear-wise, all gear that is above 463 ilvl gets down-rated to 463 while gear thats below 463 stays the same. So a gear set of all 463 is actually better having some pieces of 480 gear and 450 gear.

Either way... We need to go faster! It was a good first attempt though. And I'm sure we all learned a lot from it... ie don't stand in puddles of anything, new boss mechanics... if we really want all gold medals... itll take flasks/foods that i'm not sure if people want to "waste" on challenge runs...

There is enough additional complexity in the challenge mode runs that they require (for me at least) as few learning runs before i'd be comfortable attempting a gold run. If people are serious about trying for gold, then I recommend we stick to the same instance, run it multiple times until we can get run through with no wipes (aiming at silver).

Then we can see how much more we need to squeeze out for a gold. Depending on how much time we need, we can consider optimizing talents/pulls/buffs.

Getting bronze on our first attempt is completely reasonable, imo. And not a bad achievement as well ;)

Agreed! Definitely new complexities to look out for. I assume silver would be "easy" after a couple more attempts. Gold however... seems nearly impossible...

Well looking at the videos within the guide you posted, there's definitely stuff you can do that's not immediately apparent.

They use invisibility potions to skip certain packs of trash for instance, which i found crazy.

Also: long CD buffs don't reset (heroism) on boss engage... which means when looking at a 15 min timer (for gold), we'd only get the 2 heroes.

Finally: base dps. Not sure how to get there, but these guys were pulling a steady +60k dps on bosses. Burning bosses that quickly makes some of those mechanics easier...
