transmog hunt: old world raids

Since attendance has been slow lately, I thought I'd try and organize something for off raid days that doesn't require a full raid.
Any interest in running old instances? Personally, I have my eye set on serpent shrine caverns (I want the crystalforge lookalike). I think we probably only need 2~3 people to farm that place, but more = better

.
I know Andy would be interested in Ulduar 25.
Tony are you still into farming BT?

I'd certainly like to hit a few places, like Eye of Eternity 10-man (the ice sword will be mine...). And if I'm available, I'm willing to help out.
I'd like a set of the Warglaves, but after Tony, of course. ^^

On a note about Ulduar 25... we were able to beat the bosses fairly easily with a balanced group of 5. We weren't pushing any of the hard modes, though (which have double the chance of dropping fragments, although 2x zero is still zero with my luck). I'd think that adding two more dps would have easily triggered hard modes and made the fights go much faster.

I am still interested in grabbing the MH 'glaive, and helping on the other raids. But, like how Tuesday is our normal-mode raid time, and Thursday is kinda more LFR day, I'd propose using Thursday to run ye olde content. Because there would be more than 5 people, and we could easily clean up 2-3 raid zones (BT, Ulduar, TK; faves for drops and 'mogs), and there would still be time at the end to join LFR as a group.

I should add that since I'm not on as much, I need to be told when they're happening, please. ^_^; Enough folks should have my cell, so please text me if you're doing old stuff. I'm mainly here to help, though I'd appreciate ICC25, too. ^_^

I was able to solo 4/6 in SSC last night. (Lady Vash is impossible, and I was unprepared for Leotheras). Got my crystalforge shoulders

. I'll be going back (most likely on Monday nights) to farm the rest of the set. It was actually pretty easy/quick, and I can take people with me next time, if anyone's interested in tagging along.
DK's may be the kings of solo-ing old content, but Souldrinker means warriors can do it too!

How many do you have? I'm hoping to get two, eventually.
Did you go Fury or Prot?

Just the one, actually. I've been doing all my soloing with Prot. Tier 5 is easy enough that I haven't had to mess around with wierd specs or gear. I'm using my normal raiding spec, 2 piece tier 12 (instead of 4p T13), and strength trinkets. Only other goofy thing is a shield with shield spike (though i don't think it actually makes much difference except for the large trash packs).
When i first experimented with soloing as fury, I found that the dmg intake outpaced my self-healing too much. I had trouble with the trash even.
It should work if I ran a mix of tanking/dps gear + tweaked my fury spec, but I'm actually not sure about how much benefit I'd get over all. My dps in prot spec ends up pretty comparable to fury, especially to aoe trash packs (fury wastes a lot of dps on single targets, while prot lays it out more evenly). Fury would out heal prot, but still take more dmg.
All that said: if i manage to snag a second souldrinker, i will totally try out SMF soloing! I'll even enchant it with mending for extra lols.

Interesting. I kept my WOTLK T10 for the 4PC set bonus (
http://www.wowhead.com/itemset=-241), which helped me solo stuff for a while. I'm considering breaking it out with two Souldrinkers for more self-healing and the nice absorption shield. I'm not sure yet. 24k health might not be worth the loss of strength/DPS.

I honestly never considered downgrading that far. My intuition tells me it'd be a big loss, but health really doesn't matter too much for soloing old content (only regeneration >= incoming dmg). And Wrath level avoidance is probably fine for running around BC raids. It's a clever idea.
However, i would compare 4T10 set bonus to the 2T13. I think 2T13 is nearly equal (superior for stats, obv.) for the following reason: smaller shields, but more often. Revenging on cooldown, I get a 2k shield every 5 secs, vs 4T10 shield (20~30k?) every 30/60 secs. 2T13 would be 12k every 30 and 24k every 60. So they're about equal in throughput if you're not spec'd into booming voice.
Even if you are though: i'm not certain you get to use the entire shield of 4T10, since it only lasts 10 secs. To get full benefit from that shield, you need to be receiving at least 2~3K DPS. Which ironically, i'm not sure is the case for T5 content if you're wearing ilvl 380. 2T13 though, I'm pretty sure gets used up.
Final argument for 2T13, hitting Revenge would be a preferred use of a GCD over Shouting.
All those points are assuming running Prot spec'd in defensive stance (which I do). Running Fury spec probably gives you more DPS, even with 4T10 (prot) pieces. The real question is: are you willing to take that much of a dps hit for that shield.
