I found this particularly interesting. It goes into the amount of thought the devs have to do before making an achievement.
I found their thoughts about the PVP achievements especially interesting. I liked the comment about how hard PvP ones are because if you end up making life hell for N-1 people because the 1 person doing the achievement. I always thought this would be because the 1 person wouldn't be helping the team. They said that the 1 person could actually be working against the team engineering a situation to give 'em the achievement faster.
They talked about never making achievements worth anything.... because they'd become more mandatory. I agree with the point of view, but I felt that they failed with the guild achievements on this point. I felt that a lot of the guild achievements were quite mandatory for raiding. While you didn't NEED them to raid, you'd be behind where you were last xpac in the same place. In the last xpac, you got 2 flasks for less mats. In the last xpac, you had access to the feasts. This xpac cauldrons and feasts are guild achievement based.
In any case, being a software engineer myself, I like seeing the thought behind the features I use day in and day out.
