The Shattering

This could be tomorrow. I was still holding out for the 30th, but there's a lot of buzz around the issue. Also, not sure if it means an end to elemental invasions or not.
I think that aside from my usual grindy habits, I may start up that dorf shammy when this happens. But also spend time roaming the 'new' world collecting new flight points and trying to stand in fire.

Here's the summary list of changes:

What is not in:
* Creating worgen/goblin characters
* Worgen/Goblin start zones
* Archeology
* Professions past 450 (Illustrious Grand Master)
* Guild leveling
* Guild achievements
* Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor flight
* New Zones (80+)

What is in:
* Portals in Dalaran/Shattrath Removed
* Class trainers in Dalaran where portals once were
* New race-class combinations (excluding worgen/goblin)
* New Gnome/Troll starting areas
* Changes to existing zones
* New cata load screens
* New cata intro cinematic
* New cata login screen
* New music
* City Quartermasters, with rep tabards
* Bug fixes
* Class balancing
* Druids, paladins, priests, and shaman will have their talent trees reset
* Experience required to gain levels 71 through 80 is being reduced by 20%
* New tamable hunter pets (Monkey, fox, dog, and beetle, as well as new skins for existing pet classes.)

The MMO guy seems certain it's this week, but he's been wrong before.

For more info on what's changing (including patch notes):http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/208 ... -this-week

What Daewen means by standing in fire is this Feat of Strength: http://db.mmo-champion.com/a/5518/stood-in-the-fire/

Basically Deathwing will be flying around in random places in Azeroth. If he kills you, you get the achievement. The blues say it'll be impossible to predict where he'll show up. From the achievement text, I'm assuming deathwing will breath some fire on the ground called Molten Flame and if you stand in it and die you get the achievement. That's what I'm figuring from the text though.

Sounds like a neat achievement to have. I hope deathwing graces me with a flamey burning death at some point in the next couple of weeks.

I've seen a video of Deathwing appearing in the Wetlands and setting it on fire. We're talking huge swaths of land ablaze, not hard to see or find a hot spot to die in.

Useful flow chart for Cataclysm levelling...

So if they're lowering the experience requirements, does that mean that I'll already be partway to 85?

More likely all existing 80s will shifted to where 'new 80' begins. This is a change so the legion of alts that will be re-levelling don't have to spend quite so much time in Northrend.

I just downloaded a patch... a really small one (23mb).

I do not envy the blizzard employees this holiday weekend. Patches never go 100% smoothly, and this isn't a minor patch. I'm sure someone won't be sitting at the dinner table Thursday night trying to fix something.

Um... Is flight in old world enabled? I'm guessing not, until the 7th.

Sounds like its time to stack up the "dailies" for turn in before heading back to old world. Every little bit counts of course and from what Tony was saying he's already full up on dailies and Blizzard is leaving the dailies "in game" for use like they did in Cata. At 20ish turn in's at 24.5k per... (24.5k right?) 490,000xp to start out of something in the "meeelllions and meeellions) (5 million comes to mind for some reason) needed. Might be worth the time. Heck even saving up the "weekly" would be worth it at that point too.

Though the flying around for the turn in's seems to take longer than making the xp in Hyjal for example instead. I had something like that many quests saved up for BC and I swear I spent more time on the dang flight bird getting to the quest location turn ins than I did leveling. Meh...

Actually it's easy to hold onto 25 daily quests in Icecrown alone: Tourney, Knights of the Ebon Blade (both locations), and the Skybreaker.

For those with a Dalaran ring, it's also pretty convenient to hold on to the raid weekly.
