No wonder I was getting hit. Cuz I was intentionally standing in the same plane as you were instead of behind the boss. I wish I had known that...

Oh, and without heroism O_O But seriously it's just a spike and not a sustainable dps :b That's when Icehowl takes extra damage and I don't need to worry about threat, so I can blow all my cooldowns. Therefore, it can easily be explained with Blade Flurry + Killing Spree + Adrenaline Rush! Possibly with other people's buffs plus exposing armor or shattering throw at the time...

I'm so used to combat spec right now, and I can blow my cooldowns smartly. However, with the new dagger that dropped last week, I'm also switching to a 2nd mutilate spec like Tony did... So I'll have to kinda learn it from scratch and testing it out in heroics and ToC10/25, and I don't see myself spiking like this in my new spec. I think both Tony and I are more comfortable with combat spec. He's waiting for a nice main hand fist to match his awesome off hand dagger, whereas I'm waiting for a nice off hand sword or axe. I think once those drop for us, we'll be back to combat spec in no time.

It's true, Combat is very easy for on-demand dps spikes and consistent damage the rest of the time. Mutilate, though known for some nice burst damage, requires several seconds of wind-up and lots of time on target to keep steady dps going: some bleed for hunger for blood, slice & dice, and a 5-stack of deadly poison. My experience on Icehowl is that I need to have all that up by the time a massive crash happens, and 5 combo points, so that when I reach him I can unleash envenom, 2 mutilates, and another envenom by the time the stun wears off. Reality is that situation is not always ideally setup, as something has fallen off or expired between the crash and reaching the stunned yeti.

But that's just one example for the issue. Very similar happened on Sarth3D- I had until Heroism was lit to get S&D going, start Hunger for Blood off someone else's bleed, possibly land an eviscerate/envenom to refresh S&D to a longer duration, and have 5 combo points built up so as to land the Expose Armor with Heroism. From that point, it seems like everything is setup, but one head-side flame wave is enough to throw off the rotation and put a slump in dps until energy/resources are used to renew them.

In spite of these issues, having better daggers than other combat weapons, mutilate is probably a better option than combat for now.
But speaking of upgrades, turns out Iron Council hardmode also drops a MH fist upgrade that would send me back to combat, even though I think I'd be using 226/219 fists vs 238/245 daggers.
