Only if you can provide the receipt showing the value of the item.. and then, I think it only applies if you donate some non-trivial amount. Some amount where you'd rather take the money yourself than the tax break.

So what you're saying is that we need to create a charitable organization that accepts D3 gear so people can get tax write offs? We can sell the gear on the AH and give celestial ponies to to the Stormwind Orphans.

Put me down as "massively leery." But hopefully I'll just play with friends only and ignore the whole damn thing.
