I'm ignoring vent and using the DBM alert, as most of you should be...

Most of the time I just run out of the way when I see the alert, but I'm usually really bad about predicting which way the tank will pull him and end up on the wrong side of the gas as the boss then I have to run all the way around the gas to where he is and by that time a slime is up so my dps was probably worse than if I had been hit by the gas. 25% dps is better than 0%...

its 100% DPS loss while moving (maybe 5~7 secs, tops?) versus 75% DPS loss for the duration of the debuff (15 secs)

Walking remains a better option, even if you're having to take a big detour, no?

Assuming you do anywhere from 3000 dps to 8000 dps, getting the debuff for 15 sec means:
[3000 to 8000] dps x 15 sec x 25% = [11,250 to 30,000] total dmg

Detour, assuming it takes you 8 sec to go around the jars, leaving you with 7 sec to go dps:
[3000 to 8000] dps x 7 sec = [21,000 to 56,000] total dmg

Detouring wins, assuming 7 sec.
It actually means that unless it takes you more than 15 seconds x 75% = 11.25 seconds to detour, staying away from the jars should always win.
